The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
