Liverpool's Manager Provides No Excuses and Vows to Find Route Out of Malaise

Liverpool's head coach declared he had to “examine my own performance” after Liverpool suffered a 6th loss in 7 Premier League matches at home against Forest and insisted he would find a way from the title holders' poor run.

Nottingham Forest, fighting against the drop prior to the match, delivered the largest victory at Anfield in their club records as the Merseyside club fell to an 8th loss in 11 matches in all competitions. The British record signing, Alexander Isak, was again anonymous and Liverpool argued Murillo’s opener ought to have been ruled out for comparable grounds to the captain's chalked-off goal versus City prior to the international break. But Slot conceded the responsibility rested with him and made no excuses.

“Nobody wants to listen to me now talking about refereeing decisions if you are defeated 3-0 at home to Forest,” said the Reds' boss. “I ought to look at my own role first and my team, but it does show you how a score can change the momentum of a match. Earlier I was just waiting for us to score a goal. Afterwards we barely created any chances.

“Of course there is a path forward, especially with the quality players we have. Regardless if you triumph or lose when you reflect you are always considering: ‘In which areas can we do better, where can we make changes?’ but that is something else from questioning your abilities.

“I wish to emphasise I am accountable for the current defeats. You are responsible when you are winning but also responsible when you are defeated. I can not come up with enough reasons for us to have the results we have. That is far from acceptable and I am to blame for that.”

The team's display unravelled as the coach made multiple attacking changes when pursuing the match. “It was the same on the road at Forest last season,” he remarked. “I took Ibou [Ibrahima Konaté] out and put on [Diogo] Jota and he scored straight away to make it 1-1. Then it was brave, currently it’s probably unwise.”

The Anfield side last lost two successive at Anfield Premier League games against Nottingham Forest in the sixties. The most recent occasion they lost consecutive league games by a 3-0 scoreline was in 1965.

The manager said: “It was very bad. Playing at home, conceding 3-0 no matter which opponent you encounter is a very, very bad outcome. Unexpected if you look at the first half-hour of the match. I did not witness us creating so many chances in the initial half-hour maybe the entire season, and the initial occasion they entered in our box they found the back of the net.

“It did not happen against Manchester City, but in all other game we have been the dominant team and were capable to create opportunities. Lately it is nearly constantly that we fail to convert our opportunities and the ones we allow find the net.”
