Eric Adams Will Support Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayor's Election

NYC's current mayor Mayor Adams has announced his intention to back former Governor Cuomo in the forthcoming mayoral race, despite months of public tension between the pair of Democrats.

An Unexpected Turnaround After Recent Criticism

Just last month, the mayor had lashed out at the former governor, labeling him a “snake and a liar” and alleging of having “a history of marginalizing Black political contenders.” Yet, in a new development, Adams reversed course, stating he now intends to campaign alongside the former governor in neighborhoods where he holds strong support.

“It is crucial to energize the communities of color that have experienced gentrification on how critical this election is,” Adams commented.

He added, “Residents have seen their housing costs rise in terms of neighborhood changes and they have been disregarded in those neighborhoods, and I’m going to go to those communities and speak one on one with community leaders and organizations and I will appear with the governor in those areas and get them engaged.”

Election Landscape and Current Developments

The election battle has so far been shaped by the contest between Cuomo and democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani, whose rise in the polls has made headlines internationally and represented hopes for a revitalized leftwing of the Democrats.

In a latest candidate forum, both Mamdani and GOP candidate his conservative opponent stated they would refuse Adams’s endorsement if extended.

Months ago, the mayor had begun his re-election campaign as an unaffiliated candidate after facing legal accusations which were later dismissed in return for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across the city.

During a separate media briefing on the same day, the mayor answered reporters asking about the endorsement plan by stating, “Andrew and I will appear together this evening.”

The announcement followed a day after Adams and Cuomo were spotted attending a game side-by-side at the the NBA team's season opener at Madison Square Garden, which took place right after a heated mayoral debate.
