Alaska Airlines Flights Grounded Throughout America Due to Technical Failure

The carrier halted operations because of technical issue

The airline grounded flights at all US airports on Thursday due to a technical issue.

The airline announced that it was "facing an IT outage affecting flight schedules" and implemented "a temporary ground stop."

The carrier did not say how long the outage would continue or how many flights were impacted. It said it was "working to resume our services" after the incident.

The ground stop also affected Horizon Air, which is operated by the parent company, according to an advisory by the aviation authority.

Alaska Airlines, part of The airline group headquartered in Seattle, Washington, mainly serves on the western seaboard of the US. It services numerous locations globally, including multiple states and 12 countries, according to its online platform.

Previously, the airline merged with Hawaiian Airlines, which was unaffected by the day's ground stop.

It is the second technical failure impacting the carrier in recent months. In July, an outage halted flights for about several hours.

Alaska Airlines did not immediately respond on Thursday to media inquiries.

US air travel has been disrupted in the past few weeks due to the US government shutdown that started recently. Lack of flight controllers reporting for duty has caused delays at multiple locations.
